BREMERHAVEN 'Stuff':
Any married troops ever reside in Langen, outside of Bremerhaven? Specifically on Debstedder Str. Any remember the AF Academy fund raising raffle and fair to help support the building of the AF Academy's Football stadium, back in 61 or so? Did anyone happen to belong to the Bremerhaven Sports and Touring Club, a US/German auto rally club? I used to bowl on the "Splitters" team at the staging area bowling alleys. I worked in the CE Branch Office, under several, SMS Tom Perdue and MSgt Jimmie Andrews. Give a hollar! -- John Cobb
---
John: I belonged to the B-Haven Sports and Touring Club and still have a magnificent bumper badge. Remember the heavy-set, sandy-haired German barber who was very active with his (NSU Prinz?). I ran a light blue Porsche coupe and promptly spun out in my first auto cross at the base. Larry/Charlie/12-59--8/62.
---
Larry - Yeah, I too, still have the plaque of the Club, plus a
couple of medals, bronze (gymkana,(sp)) and silver for a rally. I would of never
won the rally had it not been for my co-pilot (a German) who was very familiar
with winning. Those rally's were set for 30mph, but there were times when one
was really hauling butt, to get to the next check point on time. There was a
friend of mine, also in the club by the name of Jim Hough, had a Renault (red)
with a super charger.
He was a Navy troop on the other side of the attic, believe a radio maintenance
type. We had a party on Debsteder Str, in a Gasthouse, where we showed movies of
difference nationalities, Brit's, German's and of course American's, and how
they were perceived by the German's. Of course the Brit's had to stop of r a cup
of tea, the American's were slam bang, camera's drapped about the body, and
snacks, etc.
Cute film. Remember the gymkana's up at the German airport, (Air Force) just
north of us, can't remember the name, but we had a lot of room to drive those
wierd layouts. Good to hear from you, where are you from? Me, Woodsville, NH.

Hi Pat - Welcome to the fold - Enjoy reading all this stuff -
The name sounds familiar, but I believe you played on the Vikings teams of those
days. Only reason I think so is cause I played on the Mox-Nix teams from 56 to
59. And the names that you mentioned were guys we played against and then with
on the All-star teams of football and basketball. Especially Walter Page, and
Ben Harmon, Red Hensley etc. And then I played on the base baseball team with
Nick Thielman in 58 and he was on Dog Trick. And Nick is a missionary stationed
in Bangladesh for the last umpteen years. I'm sure we tipped a few down at the
Blue Angel or Odeon in those good days. Any how, have some good laughs reading
the forum. It really enlightens us to what the Becks did to our minds. -

Jim, thanks for your response, you are right it was the vikings,
I
was on dog trick along with Nick.. Speaking of Nick I recently
got his e-mail address and have ben writing to him since..He is still
in bangladesh..don"t know how he has withstood all that suffering for
as long as he has..JIM, WHAT SECTION DID YOU WORK AT, I WORKED AT
THE COM CENTER UPSTAIRS OF THE OPERATIONS BUILDING. I DON'T BELIEVE IT
EXIST ANYMORE SO I GUESS IT IS OK TO TALK ABOUT BY NOW..
YOU MENTIONED THE ODION AND BLUE ANGEL, BOY DOES THAT EVER BRING
BACK MEMORIES, I HOISTED MORE BECKS THAN I SHOULD HAVE, THAT WAS A
GREAT TIME IN MY LIFE.. i RETIRED FROM THE TRUCKING INDUSTRY AFTER
40 YEARS.. RETIRED A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO AND I AM REALLY ENJOYING
LIFE.. DON'T GET IN AS MUCH GOLF AS I WOULD LIKE BUT OH WELL.

Pat, I too would like to welcome you back to the 6913th
Reactivated.
Your initial message had me somewhat confused (but that's nothing new)
because I was an Able trick Mox Nixer during the same time you indicated you
were in B'haven. I also played on the basketball, football and softball teams
and I could not recall your name as a
familiar one during that time. I then saw that Jim Reusch, who evidently has
6913th archives that rivals the Smithsonian and a memory like a steel trap,
straightened everything out. I'm sure we've
crossed paths on occasion and most likely would recognize you if I
saw you. On second thought, since I now have trouble remembering what
I had for breakfast, I don' know if that's true or not. If you really
want to bring back memories of the Blue Angel and the Odeon, read all
the messages on the web forum and you'll find numerous war stories
regarding these two infamous "watering holes". One or two of them may
even be true. In any event Pat, great to have you join us and I'm sure
you'll enjoy all the documented "Oompah ie. B.S.)that flows so freely
in the forum. A word of caution however....Jim Reusch and the rest of
the Mox Nixers earned their Phd.(piled higher and deeper)in
"Oompology" quite some time ago so the old saying "grain of salt" is
readily applicable and something you might want to keep in mind.
Welcome Pat and don't forget the reunion in Cincinnatti in Aug.

BREMERHAVEN Trivia:
SOME BREMERHAVEN TRIVIA: NAME THE GASTHAUS NORTH OF THE STAGING AREA RIGHT ALONGSIDE THE NORTH SEA DIKE IN THE VILLAGE OF WEDDEWARDEN. YOU SHOULD ALL GET THIS! ESPECIALLY DOG TRICK
---
You might say I'm a little late responding.
Wasn't the Jagerhof at the corner when you first run into the strassbahn track
on the way to town. There were two bars there and don't really remember the
other one. Use to set on the patio of the second bar and sip many cool ones
druing the afternoon during our two weeks of summer.

Bill,
I have been trying to think of the Nordpoll. I pretty sure that is the bar about
three or four miles out of town (on left side of road) heading towards Cuxhaven.
If that rings a bell let me know if I was on the right track. I remember where a
lost of places or but can't remember the name. Just keep ring my bell with names
and see if I can help. Sip quite a few at the Nordpoll.
